ANIMAL SHELTER ATTENDANT
The County of Santa Barbara Public Health Department is accepting applications to fill one full-time Animal Shelter Attendant position in Santa Maria for the Animal Services Division.
About this position: Animal Shelter Attendants, under general supervision, care for and feed the animals at a County shelter, interact with the public and provide service to shelter customers, participate in the euthanasia of animals, maintain the shelter facilities and grounds and perform other duties as required.
The Animal Welfare Specialist is the working title for this position and encompasses the concept that the staff person is comfortable working with animals, in the kennel area, and assisting clients over the phone and in the front office. The County classification title is Animal Shelter Attendant.
The IDEAL CANDIDATE will:
â¢Have paid work experience with animals, preferably in a veterinary clinic and/or animal shelter setting.
â¢Possess good animal handling skills and experience with aggressive or frightened animals is highly desirable.
â¢Possess experience providing high quality customer service to the public in a busy environment and exercising strong interpersonal skills.
â¢Possess an empathetic and problem solving approach to each day's work.
â¢Be familiar with computer programs specific to the animal industry.
â¢Be available to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
