NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
BY THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF AGING
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the California Department of Aging (CDA) shall conduct a public hearing on the designation of a new Area Agency on Aging (AAA) for Planning and Service Area (PSA) 17, Santa Barbara County and San Luis Obispo County.
PURPOSE: To gather public input on the Department’s intent to designate a new AAA for PSA 17, which encompasses the geographic boundary of the County of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo.
BACKGROUND: On March 6, 2026, CDA released a request for proposals (RFP # SLO-2627-17, link to RFP: https://caleprocure.ca.gov/event/4170/SLO2627-17), to solicit a public agency or private nonprofit organization to serve as the permanent AAA for PSA 17. The selected entity will assume responsibility for programmatic, fiscal, and administrative oversight of services provided under Title III of the Older Americans Act and the Mello-Granlund Older Californians Act, consistent with the approved Area Plan.
The deadline to obtain the RFP and submit proposals is April 27, 2026.

The hearing will be conducted via Zoom. Comments will be limited to two minutes. Members of the public are encouraged to participate virtually.

Written Comments: Members of the public who are unable to attend the hearing virtually or in person may submit written comments regarding the proposed designation. Written comments must be received no later than April 13, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
Comments may be submitted by email to with the subject line “PSA 17 Public Hearing Comment.” Written submissions may not exceed two (2) pages in length and must use at least 12-point font.
All timely received written comments will be considered as part of the public record.
